Born July 26, 1962 in Bilbao, Investigating Judge Fernando Grande-Marlaska holds a BA in economic law from the University of Deusto (Bilbao). He joined judicial service in 1987 and has served on the Court of 1st Instance in Santoña (1988-1989 ), in the Court of 1st Instance No. 12 of Bilbao (1990-1991 ) and the Court of Instruction No. 2 of Bilbao (1991-1999). He has also been a professor at the University of Deusto and at the School of Legal Practice of the Law School of Vizcaya (1994-2003). He was president of the Sixth Section (Criminal) of the Provincial Court of Vizcaya (1999-2003). He has also served on Madrid’s Court of Instruction No. 36 (2003-2004), in the Central Criminal Court No. 1 National Court (2004-2005), in the Central Court of Instruction No. 5 National Court (2005-2006) and has been in the Criminal Division of the National Court (2006-2007), Head of the Central Court of Instruction No. 3 of the National Court (2007-2012) and currently President of the Criminal Chambre of the National Court since February 2012 and Member of the General Council of the Judiciary from December 4, 2013.
